The hybrid version of the Bentayga is Bentley’s first step towards their goal to be fully electric within nine years without losing an identity with more than a century of history
Ever since its launch, the Bentayga has divided opinions from an aesthetic point of view, but the truth is that the first SUV in the English manufacturer’s history has been a huge commercial success. After a complicated pandemic period, the future seems assured with the arrival of the second generation of the hybrid version, a key model in the necessary energy transition that Bentley must make to become a 100% electric producer by 2030.
The start of something big: Bentley’s Bentayga hybrid version
With one in every five Bentayga sold, the first-generation Bentayga Hybrid was a tremendous success, and the brand expects the sales mix to shift even more towards the hybrid version going forward. Adopting the new DNA of the Bentley family, the exterior has a more modern and polished look, and the interior has been revised, highlighting the luxury materials and the exquisite craftsmanship that is the hallmark of the artisans of Crewe, the British factory that is already carbon neutral.
The infotainment system is seamlessly integrated into the dashboard design and has a 10.9-inch screen with dynamic high-resolution graphics, which can be configured to suit the driver’s preferences. For the first time, wireless Apple CarPlay is standard, along with Android Auto. The car’s connectivity has been significantly enhanced, with USB-C ports and a wireless phone charger as standard.
As for the mechanics, Bentley’s Bentayga Hybrid combines the electric engine with a 3000cc V6 Biturbo, reaching 449 combined horsepower and a massive 700Nm of torque. The result is up to 693km of autonomy between both propulsors and up to 40km in pure electric mode, which is extremely relevant since the brand’s data reveals that 90% of the trips made by the owners of the model include the use of EV mode.
The 17.3 kWh lithium battery consists of 168 individual cells, with an expected lifetime of around 160,000 kilometres or eight years and it can be charged to 100% in less than two and a half hours. In terms of performance, this portentous high-luxury SUV reaches 100km/h in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 254 km/h.
Controversial or not, the Bentayga stays true to Bentley’s image and is fundamental in the brand’s strategy to reinvent itself in less than a decade to be what it sets out to be: the benchmark in sustainable luxury mobility.
