Flying Catamarans: Lagos Marina welcomes GC32 Racing Tour this Summer

GC32 Racing Tour Lagos

Lagos Marina will be hosting the GC32 Racing Tour and the GC32 World Championship

The GC32 Lagos Cup will take place between June 22 and 26 and the GC32 World Championship will be held between July 13 and 17, marking the return of what many considered the circuit of the “most spectacular flying catamarans” in the world of sailing.

According to organisers, the big news this year is the participation of Alinghi, a team which won three out of four stages in 2021.

The return of the GC32 Racing Tour to Lagos had already been celebrated earlier this year by local mayor Hugo Pereira. “The continued choice of our territory, especially of our attractive bay, for such a prestigious event as the GC32 Racing Tour, and this year, the  GC32 World Championship as well, makes us more and more proud and motivated to continue working to support sports of excellence, to improve the needed space and technical settings, and to promote our unique and fantastic ‘ecosystem’ internationally,” Pereira said.

According to a statement by Martinho Fortunato from Marlagos (Lagos Marina), “The sea has been, from our early history, the epitome and unavoidable in the definition of Lagos as a territory of excellence, so, despite the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is with renewed enthusiasm that we express all our support and recognition of this event that brings the best to Lagos and, at the same time, shows Lagos to the world from a unique perspective.”
