Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks will perform this May 20 in Lagoa as part of their European tour

This Friday, Lagoa will host a mix of Afro-Soul and Jazz music at the Carlos do Carmo auditorium at 9pm.

Singer Shirley Davis is considered by many to be “the new diva of European Soul”, teamed up with The Silverbacks, the flagship band of Spanish label Tucxone Records, to create what is considered “one of the most exciting sets of the contemporary scene”.

The Silverbacks are the stars of the Spanish soul scene. They met Shirley at a concert by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in Madrid by coincidence when Shirley was brought on stage by the audience. She sang with Sharon, and Tucxone’s team knew immediately that they had to sign Shirley. “She accepted on the spot”.

Then,in March 2016, Shirley started leading The Silverbacks, entering the international soul scene with their debut album “Black Rose“, which became an award-winning album not only inspiring the critics worldwide but also colleagues such as Lee Fields. “Black Rose” – pure Soul music with a touch of Afrobeat – earned Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks the title of “Best New International Artist” at the Pop-Eye Awards in 2016.

Later in April 2018, Shirley & The Silverbacks released their second album called “Wishes & Wants” on which the melodies and rhythms sound stronger than ever before – a colourful blend of exotic soul and funk; light and heavy. And now, the group focuses on the best and most renowned Afro-American songs.
