The Sagres Birdwatching Festival, described as the biggest event of its kind in Portugal, is returning to the Western Algarve between October 1 and 5
“In October, thousands of birds fly over the Algarve on their way to their winter destinations in Africa, which puts on a show that is worthy of a festival,” organisers say in a communiqué to the press.
There will be the usual birdwatching activities as well as hikes, lectures and bird ringing, organisers have confirmed, although the full programme is only due to be revealed on August 10.
The festival is organised by Vila do Bispo Council, the Portuguese Society of Bird Studies (SPEA) and environmental association Almargem.
