Every now and then – less and less these days – a new release captures the imagination of the entire market
The new electric Renault 5 has joined that exclusive club. An homage to the Renault 5s of the 80s and 90s, the new model’s aesthetics are a major hit, with an approach that is as retro as it is modern, standing out both for the familiarity of its lines and for its cutting-edge technology.

With a 40kWh or 52kWh lithium-ion battery, a synchronous electric motor at the front with outputs of 95, 122 and 150 horsepower and a range of between 312km and 410km, the new Renault 5 is the city car du jour.
The cabin is full of nods to its predecessors, whilst the 10.25-inch infotainment screen shares size with the dashboard (in the fully-equipped versions) and features Android, Google maps and even an avatar that, using ChatGPT, can answer 200 questions.
Winner of the European Car of the Year award, the new 5 is already a huge sales success and has become a peerless model in Renault’s recent history that deserves to be talked about, celebrated and, above all, driven.
