7th Algarve International Piano Festival welcomes Marta Menezes this March 25

Marta Menezes at the 7th Algarve International Piano Festival 2023


The International Festival is taking place at Portimão’s TEMPO Theatre

Portuguese piano soloist Marta Menezes will perform this March 25 at 7pm at Portimão’s TEMPO Theatre.

Winner of the 1st prize at the Beethoven Competition at the Royal College of Music in London, as well as the 1st prize at the International Piano Contest of Nice Côte d’Azur, Marta Menezes has extensive experience as a piano soloist, working alongside numerous national and international orchestras, such as Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, Orchestre Régional de Cannes, Orchestra of Valencia, Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, Orquestra Sinfónica da Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, among others.

She has an active role in the promotion of Portuguese music and has premiered several works by contemporary composers, having developed several projects. In 2015 she edited her first CD with works by Beethoven and Lopes-Graça, with the support of the GDA Foundation, which received a Global Music Award in the USA – “Silver Medal – Outstanding Achievement” in the categories of Classical Piano and Emerging Artist.

Marta is a highly accomplished pianist who has studied under several renowned mentors. She began her musical journey at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa with Miguel Henriques, as well as with Jorge Moyano. She successfully completed her Masters degree with the highest grade and pursued a second Masters degree at the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied with Dmitri Alexeev, and graduated with distinction.

Marta’s academic pursuits culminated in a PhD from the University of Indiana, in the United States, where she worked with Arnaldo Cohen. Her final work focused on the “Works for Piano and Orchestra by Portuguese Composers“.

This March, Marta Menezes will perform the following programme:

  • Sonata No. 32 in C Minor op. 111, by L. V. Beethoven
  • Maestoso – Allegro con brio ed appasionato
  • Adagio molto Semplice e cantabile
  • Fantasiestück, op. 2, by J. Vianna da Motta
  • François de Paule marchant sur les lots, by F. Liszt
  • Meditation, J. Vianna da Motta
  • Transcendental Etudes No. 11, Harmonies du Soir, by F. Liszt

The last concert of the 7th Algarve International Piano Festival will take place on April 22, by Spanish soloist Manuel Nicolas Margineanu.

Ticket prices range from 12€ to 20€ and can be purchased online via www.tempo.bol.pt or at TEMPO’s ticket office between Tuesday and Saturday from 1pm to 6pm or on the nights of the concerts.
