BMW X6: Mr Controversy

By: Guilherme Marques

No one can say the BMW X6 lacks personality

The third generation of the most controversial BMW SUV has hit the market and one thing is certain: the new X6 has no intention of being any more consensual in this life than in the past.

With a decidedly aggressive design, where the gigantic grill stands out — it is also backlit at night — and a stylised rear, the top-of-the-line of SUV coupés from Bavaria takes another step forward in terms of aesthetic boldness.

However, the X6 is better than ever at what has always made it a true BMW, the pleasure of driving it. There is a clear evolution in the balance between comfort and sports dynamic, delivering exciting performances for a car this size.

Essential Algarve tested the 30d version and saw that a diesel engine can still be a very rational choice. With consumption at around eight litres, the monstrous three-litre torque together with the 265 horsepower make the German SUV a veritable mile-eater in perfect smoothness and always with low CO2 emissions.

Inside, BMW shows off its know-how with the latest infotainment technology and materials that are, as expected, even better than in its predecessor. The controversy continues, but this only seems to enrich the unceasing history of the X6.
