Mégane Feeling: Exploring the new Mégane RS

The sports driving icon is back

One of the most eagerly awaited cars of 2018 has just arrived in Portugal. The third generation of the Mégane RS follows in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessors and it wants to prove, once again, that the French brand is the best when it comes to sport compacts.

There are plenty of differences between this and the previous model, beginning with the external design: this is a much more aesthetically pleasing car, especially in Volcanic orange.

Inside, evolution in quality is evident and the sporting vein also stands out in the bucket-shaped seats, the perforated-leather and Alcantara steering wheel and, should you opt for the auto EDC six-speed gearbox, the paddles mounted behind the wheel provide extra-fast gear changes.

The new, 1.8-litre turbo engine generates 280 horsepower and drives the Mégane to 100km/h in 5.8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 255km/h. But the brilliant minds at Renault Sport have always cared more about the drive than cutting-edge speed and, in this aspect, the new RS promises to annihilate the competition.

With the introduction of the directional rear axle, the choice of five driving modes and two chassis adjustments, Renault’s new sweetheart has everything to once again set the standard in its segment and keep alive the flame of a model that is already an icon for sport-driving lovers.
