London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane will perform on March 21st and 23rd
Amigos da Música Association presents two concerts with Australian pianist Piers Lane to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Rachmaninov – the postromantic Russian composer Rachmaninov born on April 1st 1873.
On March 21st, Piers Lane will perform several Preludes by Sergei Rachmaninov as well as the Variations, followed by 12 pieces by Frederic Chopin included in the ballets Chopiniana and Les Sylphides. And on March 23rd, Piers will present Grieg’s Holberg Suite and Variations by Piotr Tchaikovsky, John Field and Alexander Glazunov.
Amigos da Música Association is a “non-profit private membership club” that brings together an “international group of friends of music in the Algarve”. Set up in 1992 to support the musical activities at the now defunct “Centro Cultural de São Lourenço”, the Association has already organised 175 concerts with 170 artists.
According to the association, “Since 2013, our focus has been on organising 18 regular concerts at the new venue of “Os Agostos”. This is unique amongst the Algarve’s concert venues. Situated within the stately home of Monte dos Agostos, in the hills above Santa Bárbara de Nexe, it provides a rustic and intimate space, ideal for chamber music. Artists, too, appreciate it and are inspired by this atmosphere of near “Hausmusik”.”
