Algarve International Piano Festival goes digital

Between March and May, the Portimão  Theatre will host more than a dozen renowned national and international pianists for the 5th edition of the Algarve International Piano Festival

Although cultural facilities are temporarily closed, the 5th edition of the Algarve International Piano Festival will go on, with the opening concerto taking place on Sunday, March 7.

Until May 29 there will be eight concerts recorded at TEMPO — Teatro Municipal de Portimão, in the Grand Auditorium, which will be broadcast online for free.

Portuguese pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and Peruvian pianist Rosa Maria Barrantes will kick off the Festival, on March 7, with “Volta ao Mundo a Quatro Mãos”, a recital that will revisit Astor Piazzola, Samuel Barber, Francis Poulenc and Igor Stravinsky.

At the end of the month, on the 27th, the TEMPO stage will receive Chinese pianist Xi Zhai and Russian pianist Anna Stepanova for a concerto with two pianos.

For April, there are three performances scheduled: On the 16th, Adriano and Eduardo Jordão will perform a four-hand recital and, on the 23rd, João Rosa will present a solo piano performance. To close the month, on the 30th, Mário Laginha & Friends will take the stage at TEMPO.

Finally, in May, António Rosado and Melissa Fontoura will perform together on the 9th, followed by Vasco Dantas on the 21st.

The Festival will come to an end on May 29, with a performance from Raúl Costa and the Portuguese Symphonic Band.

The concerts are recorded without an audience, and all broadcasts will take place at 9pm, with free access, on the Facebook pages of TEMPO and the Municipality of Portimão.
