Portimão’s port set for a busy year, with 56 cruise stops scheduled for 2024

“Tens of thousands of passengers” expected to visit the city

Portimão Council has announced that the local port will welcome 56 cruise stopovers in 2024, with 23 of them scheduled for April and May alone.

According to the local authorities, “tens of thousands of passengers” will stop in Portimão due to its “privileged position” between both the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

There are 13 stopovers scheduled for this month and 10 for May, with May 14 proving particularly busy due to the arrival of three cruise vessels: the National Geographic Explorer, the Seadream I and the Hamburg.

The local council highlights the Norwegian Dawn (2,340 passengers – May 11), the Carnival Legend (2,680 passengers – June 10), the Norwegian Pearl (2,394 passengers – November 18), the Norwegian Star (2,348 passengers – December 4) and the Explora II (1,473 passengers – August 15 and October 12) as the ships that will bring the most tourists to Portimão.

“Emblematic ships” will also be stopping at Portimão’s port, such as the Sea Cloud Spirit on May 19 and the Seven Seas Voyager on June 17.

According to the local authorities, “all this movement contributes strongly to the Algarve’s tourist promotion, dynamising the regional economy”.
