The first direct air link between the Algarve and the United States of America will launch in May 2025
United Airlines has recently announced that the direct flights between Faro in the Portuguese Algarve region and Newark in New York, USA, will launch in May 2025.
The new route will be the first direct air link between the Algarve and the United States of America and will operate four times a week until September 23, 2025.
Flights from Faro to Newark will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing the Gago Coutinho Airport at 11.40am and arriving in the US at 3pm (local time). Meanwhile, the flights from Newark to Faro are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with take-off scheduled for 9.35pm (local time) to arrive in Faro at 9.50am.
A Boeing 757-200 aircraft will be used, offering 176 seats, including 16 in United Polaris business class and 160 in economy class, including 42 Economy Plus seats with extra legroom.
In a statement to the press, United Airlines said that this expansion further cements its position as the leading US airline in Portugal, offering more flights and destinations than any other American carrier.
Alongside the new Faro-Newark route, United already operates daily year-round flights between Lisbon and New York/Newark, as well as Lisbon-Washington, D.C., and seasonal routes from Porto, Ponta Delgada (Azores), and starting in July, from Madeira to New York/Newark.
“We’re excited to announce the launch date for our much-anticipated first service between Faro and New York/Newark, expanding even more out network of routes from Portugal to the USA,” said Marcel Fuchs, United Airlines’ Managing Director of International Sales. “For the summer of 2025, our clients in Portugal will benefit from a larger choice of trips, with the opportunity to fly directly from Faro to the USA for the first time, as well as the possibility to enjoy links through our New York/Newark airport to 58 destinations across America.”
United Airlines is expanding internationally, with bold plans for summer 2025. The airline is also introducing new routes from Newark to Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; and Madeira, Portugal. The company’s international expansion is the largest in its history. The company is also adding three new routes from Washington D.C./Dulles airport, including a year-round flight to Dakar, Senegal, and seasonal flights to Nice, France and Venice, Italy.
