Fine dining, astronomy and the Perseid meteor shower come together for a one-night event on August 12
The Viceroy at Ombria Algarve in Loulé is set to host a unique culinary experience on August 12, bringing together some of Portugal’s leading Michelin-starred chefs for an evening inspired by this summer’s historic solar eclipse.
Taking place from 6pm to 10pm in the resort’s Main Plaza, the Solar Eclipse Chef’s Experience combines fine dining with astronomy, allowing guests to enjoy signature dishes, bespoke cocktails and safe eclipse viewing in an open-air setting.
The event will feature chefs with a combined five Michelin stars, including Rui Paula, whose restaurants Casa de Chá da Boa Nova and DOP hold three stars between them, André Cruz of Feitoria (one star), and Rui Sequeira of Alameda restaurant (one star).
They will be joined by the resort’s own culinary team, led by executive chef Pedro Pinto, alongside pastry chef Jean-Michel and bar manager João Felicidade, who will oversee the drinks pairing. Guest bartender Wilson Pires will also create a selection of cocktails inspired by the celestial theme.

Guests will be able to explore a series of food and drinks stations, sampling 15 tasting creations whilst meeting the chefs behind each dish. Certified eclipse-viewing glasses are included with every ticket.
For those looking to experience the eclipse in greater detail, the resort is also offering a Solar Eclipse Rooftop Experience led by João Costa of AstroFaro. Limited to 50 participants, the session includes guided observations through professional telescopes and is available for an additional €50.
After sunset, the experience continues with a Stargazing Rooftop Experience, where 15 guests will have the opportunity to observe the Perseid meteor shower through professional telescopes. This optional activity is also priced at €50 per person.
Tickets for the Solar Eclipse Chef’s Experience cost €150 per person and include entry, all 15 tasting experiences, drinks pairings, certified eclipse glasses and access to the evening’s entertainment.

“This will be a true gastronomic eclipse,” said executive chef Pedro Pinto. “Bringing together some of Portugal’s finest chefs beneath the Algarve sky creates a unique opportunity to celebrate exceptional cuisine alongside one of the year’s most anticipated astronomical events.”
Places are limited, and advance booking is recommended through the Viceroy at Ombria Algarve’s experiences page.
