Balanced Elegance: Equilíbrio unveils new gallery

By: Hélio Ramos

The newly opened Art Gallery by Equilíbrio — located next to the existing Equilíbrio Interiors showroom, in Almancil — is a welcome addition to the area, showcasing original paintings by a selection of Portuguese and international artists.

In particular, the watercolours by the Scottish artist Glen Scouller, all painted in the Algarve, could make for an attractive addition to many interiors. Living in Ayrshire, Scotland, Glen Scouller is a contemporary artist passionate about colour and light, with a strong, bold approach to his subject matter, which includes landscape, still life and the human figure. Scouller’s work is based on direct observation from nature, painting en plein air and developing larger works in the studio.

Elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours (RSW) in 1997 and the Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI) in 1989, he has also won several awards for his work in both oil painting and watercolour and is included in numerous corporate and public collections worldwide, including the South African government, the Scottish government, De Beers and the Royal Bank of Scotland. The gallery exhibits many limited-edition prints beautifully mounted and framed with a variety of subjects, such seascapes, abstract, floral, animals, figurative and more.

Among the artists on display are Lucy Claw, Chloe Gardner, Valerie Davide, Charlotte Morgan, Elizabeth Ockford, Arthur Morris, Claire Ongley and Jessica Zoob. Ingrid Parnis, founder and owner of Equilíbrio Interiors, has added to the collection inexpensive decorative art, which can transform any home — whether in the Algarve or abroad. A wide range of black and white framed photographs, suitable for cinema rooms and many other areas, are also on display.

Apart from pictures, the gallery has a selection of sculptures and glassware. Amongst the sculptures, visitors will find the work of well-known Belgian sculptor Ann Vrielinck, whereas the glass items are hand-blown in the Czech Republic, making for ideal decorative pieces in attractive colours and designs.

The collection in the gallery changes regularly. As many items are purchased by clients who do not necessarily have a property in Portugal, Equilíbrio will ship any piece to anywhere in the world. The beautifully presented main Equilíbrio Interiors showroom with 400sqm also features many paintings and other artworks, giving clients a unique and wide range of choice.
