Yoga Day at Vila Vita
Vila Vita Parc is celebrating International Yoga Day on June 21 with a full day of Yoga and Meditation classes.
The day starts at 8.15am with a Morning Vinyasa Class, an Aerial Yoga Group Class at 11.30am, and a half-hour session for families at 12pm. After lunch, at 3pm, yogis can express themselves in the Yoga Dance Class, and at 4pm, practice breathing techniques during the Pranayama & Meditation session.
The day ends with a Hatha Yoga Flow Class with live music by musician João Branco at 5.45pm. Classes are complimentary for resort guests and cost €15 for visitors, except for the Hatha Yoga Flow, which is €30.
Wing foiling
A hybrid of kitesurfing and windsurfing, wing foiling (also known as wing surfing or winging) is becoming more and more popular in the Algarve.
Standing on a short board equipped with a hydrofoil, the rider flies over the water while being pulled by a very light, inflatable wing.
Although it looks intimidating, it’s a simple sport and only takes a few hours to master.
In the Algarve, there are already several companies offering wing foiling lessons, mainly in Lagos and Alvor.
Portugal’s Golf Resort of the Year
Dom Pedro Golf Vilamoura received the Golf Resort of the Year in Portugal award from the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).
A total of 660 golf tour operators from all over the world voted for the best golf courses, resorts and destinations that provide excellent customer service.
The Algarve resort held off the challenge of several of Portugal’s leading golf resorts.

Portuguese Tour
The 85th Volta a Portugal will take place between July 24 and August 4, and will pass through the Algarve.
One of the oldest cycling tours in the world and the biggest event in Portuguese cycling, the competition runs through various cities in the country, and participants face a variety of challenges, from mountains to plains and urban stretches. The winner of this edition of the Volta a Portugal will be crowned in Viseu on August 4.
Voting open for World Spa Awards
Voting has begun for the 2024 World Spa Awards, with several Algarve spas in the running across multiple categories.
In fact, the nominees for Portugal’s Best Resort Spa are all from the Algarve –Anantara Vilamoura, Conrad Algarve, Sayanna Wellness at EPIC SANA Algarve, Serenity Spa at the Pine Cliffs Resort, Tivoli Carvoeiro and Tivoli Vilamoura, and Vila Vita Spa by Sisley.
Unsurprisingly, Portugal is nominated for Europe’s Best Spa Destination. Recognising excellence in the luxury wellness industry, the awards are the culmination of an online voting process, engaging tourism professionals specialising in spa and wellness, as well as hundreds of thousands of consumers from around the globe. Voting is running until August 13.

From Loulé to Paris 2024
Loulé-native Gabriel Albuquerque will represent Portugal in men’s individual trampoline at the 2024 Olympic Games, taking place in Paris between July 26 and August 11.
At just 17 years old, the Algarve gymnast was selected by the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation after coming 6th at the World Cup in Cottbus, Germany, ealier this year.
Before that, he had already reached the finals of the World Championships in Birmingham, England, making him the most recent national star in the sport.
