CAMP’22: A new musical & cultural event begins this October

Following the success of last year’s Harfeast, Morgado do Quintão is organising yet another cultural end-of-harvest event. With a more ambitious line-up featuring national musical acts, thought-provoking workshops, conversations and plenty of wine tasting, CAMP’22 comes to challenge the senses and celebrate a slower, more mindful way of life on October 7, 8 and 9.

“It is both a celebration of the end of the harvest and a time and place to expand our thinking through art, culture, beauty and community, and to celebrate life,” says Filipe Caldas de Vasconcellos, the founder and creative mind behind the project, whose aim is to bring together musicians, creators and thinkers.

Music will have a prominent role at the event, combined with an engaging cultural programme executed on an intimate scale. “CAMP is not a music festival”, affirms Filipe. “It is where music and culture come together as a field guide for each one of us to get lost and to find ourselves.”

So why CAMP?

“Because I think camps are missing for adults”, Filipe admits. “We need opportunities to meet new people, learn new things and take a moment to rebuild ourselves.” This is what he aims to do with CAMP’22, to challenge visitors to open their minds to learn and do new things.

The musical programme

The Morgado do Quintão gates are scheduled to open daily at 2 pm, with activities starting at 3 pm. Visitors will have access to a varied cultural programme that lasts well into the evening when musical acts Carminho (October 7), Bruno Pernadas (October 8) and Mário Laginha (October 9) take to the stage.

The public will have the opportunity to take part in other activities and interact with the singers and musicians as they “give a little bit of themselves”, sharing stories and memories of their lives and careers in a series of talks.

The Talks Programme – “Land, Meaning and Beauty”

The Talks programme begins with a series of conversations reflecting on the event’s central themes – “Land, Meaning and Beauty“. These take place between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm, among the winery’s ancient vineyards, under its ancient olive tree or in the comfort of the estate’s beautiful whitewashed houses.

Those wanting to stay and share experiences well into the night can do so on the first two nights of the event (October 7th and 8th), as there will be informal debates around the firepit after the concerts.

On October 7, the programme includes Talks with sensorialist Lourenço Lucena – the only Portuguese member of the French Perfumers Society, anthropologist Maria Manuel Restivo and architect and urban planner Rita Castel’Branco.

On October 8, CAMP’22 welcomes lawyer and astrologer Duarte Miranda Mendes (Duarte Amadeu), photographer and editor Cláudio Garrudo, and Pedro Teixeira, professor at the University of Lisbon and founder of Safe Journey, who will discuss psychedelic substances.

This day also marks the premiere of “Tilt”, a documentary focusing on poetic creation, which will be presented by its producer Teresa Júdice da Costa.

Finally, on October 9, participants get the opportunity to meet Mónica Franco, founder of the Bloom Movement (environmental NGO), poet Raquel Marinho and photographer Isabel Saldanha.

Wine, and food, will obviously be part of the programme. Visitors will be guided through a tasting of Morgado do Quintão wines daily between 4 pm and 5 pm. The tastings are led by winemaker Joana Maçanita (October 7th and 8th), and Morgado do Quintão co-owner and founder of CAMP’22, Filipe Caldas de Vasconcellos (October 9).

The “Gentes da Nossa Terra” (People of our Land) workshops take place in the old olive oil mill. Developed in partnership with the LOULÉ DESIGN LAB, these include hands-on activities with ceramics and recycled wood and a talk on ecology.

Three-day passes (€150), day tickets (€75) and evening tickets (€40 – concert only) are available on the event’s website or on Blueticket. Lagoa residents, Cultural Passport holders and youngsters up to the age of 25 get a special discount.
