Lagoa’s Wine Tourism Forum brought together winemakers, tourism specialists, sommeliers, hotel managers, restaurant owners, and wine lovers to discuss and learn more about wine tourism in Portugal and the Algarve
Hotel Bricia du Mar in Ferragudo hosted the largest wine tourism forum ever held in the Algarve on November 9 and 10.
Attended by winemakers, tourism specialists, sommeliers, hotel managers, restaurant owners, journalists and wine lovers, the Lagoa Wine Tourism Forum gave participants an opportunity to learn more about wine tourism projects being developed in Portugal and experience the Algarve’s wine tourism experiences for themselves.
The theme of the event was ‘Innovation & Sustainability Challenges’ and the opening session speakers included Sara Silva, President of the Algarve Wine Commission; André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Region; and Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.
According to organisers, the event was “unanimously considered a success” and pinpointed the need for further debates, which help “strengthen the continuous growth of wine tourism in the Algarve.”
“Wine tourism has been growing significantly in the Algarve and is on an auspicious path that could position it as an important complementary product in the region’s tourism offering, which will contribute towards consolidating Portugal as one of the best wine tourism destinations in the world,” Lagoa Municipal Council said in a post-event press release.
