4th edition of “BoCA” brings together Performing and Visual Arts, Music, and much more to Faro and Lisbon this September 2

Under the motto, “Invisible Present”, this year’s 6-week event will feature more than “30 cultural, heritage and natural spaces in the cities of Lisbon and Faro”

The Bienal of Contemporary Arts (BoCA) event starts in Lisbon and Faro this September 2, bringing together “thinkers and communities” with new creations, “commissioned, produced or co-produced by BoCA”, a space that encourages “the circulation of new ideas, images and discourses”.

This year’s event focuses on our fast-paced lives and the “vertigo of speed”, which detaches us from what it means to be human, thereby enabling us to ignore the possibilities of freedom, justice, and equality. With this premise, the concept is to observe, empathize, and remain committed to the present.

BoCA’s “Invisible Present” will dissolve geographical, physical, temporal, and identity boundaries, providing a voice for those who have been voiceless.

The goal is to showcase artists “who venture into new creations or collaborations”, taking risks with novel languages and projects that illuminate the world’s intricacies and hidden aspects, and, above all, inspire us to invent potential ways of fully inhabiting the tangible present.

Brought together from theatres, museums, cultural centres, heritage spaces, natural spaces and nightclubs, the event offers an array of over 30 captivating experiences to explore. Featured artists include Héctor Zamora, João dos Santos Martins, Ana Jotta, Joana Sá, Zia Soares, Agnieszka Polska, and many others.

BoCA, established in 2015, is a non-profit organization based in Lisbon. It centres on the concept of “transdisciplinarity” and aims to cultivate a diverse cultural ecosystem by fostering synergies among cities, cultural venues (theatres, museums, cultural centres), natural spaces, and artistic disciplines (performing arts, visual arts, music, cinema), along with their respective audiences.
