Historic photographs reveal the Algarve of past decades in Vila do Bispo

Exhibition at the Interpretation Centre runs until March 31

The exhibition The Algarve by Asta and Luís de Almeida d’Eça is currently on display at the Vila do Bispo Interpretation Centre, offering visitors a look at historic photographs that helped introduce the region to the world.

Organised as part of the celebrations marking 55 years of tourism in the Algarve, the exhibition brings together images captured by photographer couple Asta and Luís de Almeida d’Eça between the 1960s and 1980s, a period that played an important role in establishing the Algarve as an international tourism destination.

Many of the photographs were originally used in promotional campaigns abroad. The images portray the region’s landscapes, traditions, crafts and everyday life, reflecting both the natural beauty and cultural identity of the Algarve during those decades.

For this exhibition, the photographs are presented across more than 20 large-scale panels, giving visitors the chance to explore the historic images in greater detail.

The exhibition can be visited Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm, and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Entry is free and the exhibition runs until March 31.

The initiative is promoted by Turismo do Algarve in partnership with Vila do Bispo Municipal Council and the Vila do Bispo Museum – Celeiro da História. For further information, contact 282 630 600.
