The hospitality brand is preparing to begin construction in 2027 on a 100-room hotel, signature restaurant and branded residences in the eastern Algarve

The Algarve will welcome one of the world’s best-known luxury hospitality brands, Nobu Hospitality, with construction expected to begin in 2027.

Founded by celebrated chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Hollywood star Robert De Niro and film producer Meir Teper, Nobu has become one of the world’s most recognisable luxury lifestyle brands, operating hotels and restaurants across Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East.

The brand will open a luxury hotel at Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, near Vila Nova de Cacela, scheduled to open in 2029, and developed in partnership with Portuguese real estate company Norfin.

This will be Nobu’s second destination in Portugal, following the previously announced Nobu Hotel Lisbon.

The project will feature a 100-room hotel, Nobu’s signature Japanese restaurant, branded villas and luxury residences for sale, all set within Monte Rei’s 400-hectare estate surrounding the acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

The project will also feature around 21,000 square metres of Nobu-branded villas and residences, which will be offered for sale.

“Together with Norfin, we have the opportunity to create a distinctive Nobu destination that feels deeply connected to the Eastern Algarve while delivering the hospitality, dining, design and service for which the brand is known around the world.”

Architecture and interior design will be led by Rockwell Group, a long-time Nobu design partner, alongside DSA Architects.

Norfin said the partnership marks a new chapter for Monte Rei, one of southern Portugal’s premier golf and residential resorts. “This is an important milestone for Monte Rei,” said Miguel Mateus, CEO of Norfin. “The resort has long been recognised for the quality of its golf course, service and residential environment. We are now building on that legacy with a broader ambition, bringing together world-class hospitality, exceptional residences and carefully curated leisure experiences.”
