The performance arts festival returns to Lagos from June 2-4, with acts highlighting sustainability

Now in its 3rd edition, VENTANIA aims to present solutions to overcome some of the major challenges we face globally, but also in the Algarve region in particular.

Following the creative process WINDY, wherein artists living in the Algarve are invited to create works with ecological reflection, VENTANIA opens this year’s edition with an art installation that brings together the work of ceramist Ricardo Lopes with a sound environment created by multidisciplinary artist Carlos Norton.

This is followed by the European premiere of the show ECOSOFÍA, with artistic direction by Chilean Camila Rojas Cannobbio. Inspired by the philosophical school that gives it its name, ECOSOFÍA is a work built from a unique visual narrative that fuses acrobatics, dance, projections and sounds, as it engages the audience in an immersive staging that rejects anthropocentrism and invites contemplation of the eco-cosmos and the universe as a living whole.

Taking on a strong dynamic of artistic co-creation with the Algarve community, this edition of VENTANIA presents in Lagos a new premiere, in the form of physical theatre and contemporary circus project UNS AMB ALTRES, with the artistic direction of the Catalan Pau Portabella. The show addresses fracturing social issues such as freedom, individuality and the position of the individual in society, and is performed by the newly formed VENTANIA Collective – a group of artists living in the Algarve, versed in multiple performing arts, who came together with the purpose of forming an anchor project of collective creation in the region.

After the opening shows in Lagos, VENTANIA will move to Lagoa, also in June, and Portimão, in September.
