Free outdoor screening of Eleanor the Great and live discussion take place on August 10

Loulé will host one of the first Tribeca Open Air powered by Toyota events on Monday, August 10, transforming the historic Convento do Espírito Santo into an open-air cinema for an evening of film, conversation and live entertainment.

Loulé and Sintra are the two locations selected to launch the new initiative from Tribeca Festival Lisboa, which aims to bring cinema to landmark venues ahead of this year’s festival, taking place in December.

The evening begins at 8pm, when the venue opens with food and drink stalls and a DJ set by RFM radio station. At 9pm, a live discussion titled “How do you tell a story? From journalism to fiction” (in Portuguese) will explore storytelling across different creative fields. Moderated by Expresso journalist Rúben Tiago Pereira, the panel features SIC journalist André Pacheco and actors Isabela Valadeiro, Sónia Balacó and Margarida Vila-Nova.

At 10pm, audiences will be treated to a giant-screen screening of Eleanor the Great, Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut. The comedy-drama follows 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein as she embarks on a new chapter in New York after the death of her closest friend. The film was presented exclusively at the 2025 edition of Tribeca Festival Lisboa.

Admission is free, although tickets must be reserved in advance through the festival’s website.

Tribeca Open Air is organised through a partnership between Tribeca Festival Lisboa, Toyota Portugal and Loulé Municipality.
