The Wyndham Grand Algarve is Iberia’s first destination for the world’s largest hotel franchising company

With around 9,300 units in 90 countries and a total of 831,000 rooms around the globe, the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is the “world’s largest hotel franchising company by the number of properties”. Averaging almost two hotel inaugurations per day, each one fitting into one of their six different categoriesDistinctive, Upscale, Lifestyle, Midscale, Value and Extended Stay — the brand based in New Jersey, USA, has one of the largest and most diversified hotel portfolios in the world.

The first destination in the Iberian Peninsula, the Wyndham Grand Algarve, opened on May 28 last year, and falls precisely under the top-end category, Distinctive.

Set in a total area of 350,000m2, on 39 Avenida André Jordan, in Quinta do Lago, and a short distance from the beach, the hotel is located among 800 hectares of the Ria Formosa Natural Park and combines superb facilities and second-to-none service with a stay full of memorable experiences.

Maarten de Boer, manager of the Wyndham Grand Algarve, highlights the “attention to detail and state-of-the-art facilities” found in such an idyllic location as Quinta do Lago. At the Wyndham Grand Algarve, the motto is “Travelling is the best way to enjoy the good things in life”, which guides the actions of the premium brand that is present in several of the world’s most sought-after destinations.

Hence, it is easy to understand what led the group to choose the Algarve region. “We could not miss this opportunity. Given its unrivalled location, one of the best in Iberia, there was total interest in launching the group’s most prestigious brand in the Algarve,” says Ana Damásio, the resort’s director of real estate sales and marketing.

With sophisticated architectural lines, the building also enjoys modern décor, by London studio Tweenty2Degrees – Design Partnership, specialising in hotel design, which flows across all communal spaces and the more than 130 residences which, as well as being part of the hotel, are also for sale.

“We offer our investors a guaranteed annual Essential Hotel return through ownership packages that can be tailored to their individual preferencehighest rental income or highest usage period, which can be for up to six months. Their investment will be fully managed through a rental pool programme, providing an effortless ownership experience,” explains Ana Damásio.

Ranging from one- to three-bedroom, from 77m2, all apartments have a balcony or terrace, a parking space and a storage space, with prices starting at €534,000. “The residences prove to be a timeless investment, due to their versatility in appealing to a multitude of target markets with different lifestyles and tastes,” she adds.

According to Ana Damásio, the very size of the residences is one of the hotel’s highlights. “It has the largest suites in Quinta do Lago and some of the largest in the region. They are full-size apartments. For example, up to six people can stay in a two-bedroom apartment since there are two suites, a sofa bed and another bathroom. All of them are spacious, comfortable and benefit from a private outdoor space. This ensures an experience that goes beyond that of a simple hotel stay,” she explains. For those who want to explore the apartments in detail, the Wyndham Grand Algarve will promote Open Days on April 13 and 14, promising tours, welcome drinks and a sample of the lifestyle that only a unit of this kind can provide.

But there is still plenty to discover. The hotel provides four different gastronomic experiences, each designed to satisfy different taste buds. Guests can start the day at Caravela, serving delicious breakfasts from themed buffets with international flavours. By the pool, the Oasis presents a choice of quality meals for lunch, and in the Grand Bar & Lounge there are signature cocktails inspired by local and seasonal products.

For dinner, the Dourado restaurant, headed by chef Luís Santos, offers top-quality service, inspired by international cuisine, with local recipes. The space’s modern concept, with an open kitchen, allows diners to see what is being prepared, even before the dish reaches the table.

The menu is diverse, comforting, made with fresh and local produce, served in a sophisticated atmosphere that calls for a delicious meal paired with one of the many wines from the fantastic wine cellar.

The Reflections Spa is the ideal retreat for a variety of treatments, all with the Elemis signature, a top British cosmetics brand, along with the sauna, indoor pool and hydromassage tub. For the more energetic, there is a fully equipped gym, classes and personal trainer. Geared towards guests aged four to 12, the Hakuna Matata Kids Club is full of educational and fun activities. It is worth noting that all restaurants along with the spa and gym are open to the public as well.

The resort’s other highlights are the conference rooms, fitted with state-of-the-art technology, ideal for business meetings or presentations. With a versatile space covering 483m2 and able to host up to 400 people, it is no wonder that top international football teams, such as Paris Saint-Germain and the Irish and Scottish national teams, have chosen the resort for training.

The facilities are currently being refurbished with completion expected in May. In addition to all this, the five-star service, stunning gardens and close proximity to the beach combine to make the perfect venue for an elegant ceremony, such as a wedding, where the lounge can be transformed into a dance floor, and it is even available for performances. “In a single space, we can bring together a series of state-of-the-art facilities that no other hotel in the area can offer. The wealth of experiences available at the Wyndham Grand Algarve is unique and that is what makes us stand out,” concludes Ana Damásio.
