Trade shows, tastings and festivals
BLiP Expo
Portimão Arena will once again host BLiP Expo (Better Living in Portugal Exhibition), “the Algarve’s leading trade fair”, on October 11 and 12.
In addition to showcasing a range of services, associations and activities, there will be opportunities to network and forge partnerships. This is an opportunity for both businesses and residents to get to know each other and exchange views.
From insurance, wealth management, health, home and garden, funeral services, real estate, food and drink, tourism, community volunteering and sports teams, there are many areas covered and a wide range of lifestyle solutions on offer here.
THE LONELINESS OF LIZARDS
Released earlier this year and one of the highlights at Cannes, the Portuguese short film A Solidão dos Lagartos (The Loneliness of Lizards), directed by Inês Nunes, is a Portuguese-Spanish co-production.

Over the course of 15 minutes, it takes a distinctive approach to the Algarve region as a space of confrontation between the real and the artificial, from a perspective shaped by tourism. The plot unfolds in a spa surrounded by mountains of salt, with saltpan workers labouring just a few metres away.
Throughout the story, the lives of various characters intersect, creating an atmosphere of transformation and introspection, where the desires of different characters are exposed.
Loulé to host Autumn Market every Saturday
The historic centre of Loulé will once again come alive with the Autumn Market, held every Saturday morning from 10am to 2pm until November 15.

Organised by the municipal council, the event has become a local tradition, offering themed markets that highlight regional products, local artisans, and creative ideas.
The programme is divided into three themes, rotating across different Saturdays: Tradition, Pleasures and Experiences (October 11, November 1); Urban Crafts and Design (October 18, November 8); and Recycling, Arts and Flea Market (October 4, October 25, November 15).
Wine Connection Tasting Experience
On October 11-12, the Vale do Lobo Auditorium will host the 5th Wine Connection Tasting Experience, from 3pm to 9pm, an event that pays tribute to the country’s tradition and culture.

Visitors will be able to explore an exclusive selection of exceptional wines, both national and international, speak directly with producers and experts, learn more about the winemaking process and discover the latest trends.
In the food court, there will be Portuguese snacks such as traditional cheeses, cured ham and a variety of local delicacies, accompanied by live music.
Walk & Art Fest
Not to be missed by lovers of trekking and art, the 8th edition of the Walk & Art Fest takes place from November 7 to 9 in the village of Barão de São João, in the municipality of Lagos.

There are options for all tastes and fitness levels, such as long, short and themed walks, focusing on topics such as Geology, Botany, History and Drawing.
For the more curious, there are workshops or, for those who prefer adrenaline, mountain bike rides. If you want to relax, you can also do so and enjoy the wellness activities available.
Forgotten Food Festival
The ‘Festival da Comida Esquecida’ (Forgotten Food Festival) is back for its third edition, celebrating local foods, traditions and knowledge at risk of disappearing.

The programme kicked off in September with the return of the popular “Piqueniques de Charme” (Charm Picnics).
Next up is a special lunch on October 19 at Herdade do Barranco do Vale in São Bartolomeu de Messines, Silves (9.30am to 3.30pm), followed by another ‘Charm Picnic’ on November 16 at Quinta do Freixo in Benafim, Loulé (9.30pm to 3.30pm).
The event is organised by QRER – Cooperativa para o Desenvolvimento dos Territórios de Baixa Densidade – a community-based cooperative dedicated to boosting cultural, social and economic projects in rural and less-populated parts of the Algarve.
