There is a lot to see and do, from a classic car festival at the Algarve International Autodrome, to photographic and historic exhibitions, and the Walk & Art Festival for nature lovers featuring hiked themes
Algarve Classic Festival
Hailed as the biggest classic car event in the Iberian Peninsula, the Algarve Classic Festival returns to AIA (Algarve International Racetrack) on October 25-27.
The festival will host Classic Championships, attracting some of the best cars and drivers of this segment to the region.
A unique event that celebrates the elegance of historic cars, AIA will set the stage for action-packed events for those who enjoy this style of cars.
Other Worlds and Kalasha
Portuguese-Brazilian photographer Ana Abrão is showcasing a photographic collection in an exhibition entitled Other Worlds and Kalasha, at the Misericórdia Church in Silves until December 31.
The exhibition was put together following the publication of the artist’s two books.
Other Worlds is the outcome of a year-long immersion in Asian culture, whilst Kalasha sheds light on the daily routines of the Kalash, a polytheistic community living in the mountains of northern Pakistan. She aims to celebrate the richness of human diversity and encourage contemplation on the intricate nature of societies and cultures worldwide.
Walk & Art Fest
From November 1 to 3, the village of Barão de São João in the municipality of Lagos will once again host the Barão de São João – Walk & Art Fest.
Combining hiking and art, the festival features various activities across the village and the surrounding territory, allowing visitors to explore the local natural and cultural heritage.
Long, short and themed hikes (geology, botany, birdwatching, history, drawing, and more), workshops, and mountain bike rides are just some of the activities planned for the 7th edition.
This year’s event will once again count on the local artistic community coming together to provide visitors with an artistic immersion in this village with such peculiar characteristics.
One person
Kasia Wrona recently reflected on her profound journey in the arts, marked by her latest exhibition at the Centro Cultural Lagos (Lagos Cultural Centre).
The exhibition’s title – Catarina, Katarzyna, Kasia Wrona Uma Pessoa (or Catarina, Katarzyna, Kasia Wrona One Person) – encapsulates the multi-dimensional nature of Wrona’s work, a culmination of 33 years of artistic exploration. Wrona’s artistic evolution is characterised by distinct phases, each marked by a unique signature, and her journey is shaped by the places, inspirations, and techniques that subtly intertwine to form her artistic identity. The exhibition will be on display until October 27.
Eat, Drink and Stay
Entre Pratos e Vinhos, a gastronomic event organised by the Algarve’s Wine Commission, returns between October 17 and November 30.
In addition to the participation of over 20 restaurants, this year, the initiative will also include hotels across the Algarve, to help visitors “get to know the region” under the motto ‘Eat, Drink and Stay’.
The initiative aims to value and publicise the restoration of the Algarve’s demarcated region by promoting local gastronomy paired with the region’s wine. Each participating establishment will present a menu suggestion consisting of a dish and a certified wine from the Algarve, whilst hotels will suggest a package.
Stories the River Brings Us
The Portimão Museum is hosting the exhibition Stories the River Brings Us, the culmination of a study carried out over almost two decades.
This work was conducted using fragments deposited in the submerged sands of the River Arade, an archaeological collection that made it possible for more than 10 researchers from all over the country to analyse the passage and occupation of the territory.
The exhibition reveals narratives that took place on the river, a gateway to the Algarve, and can be visited until November 3.
