Frederique Constant may not have the richest Swiss watchmaking tradition – after all, it was only founded in 1988 – but its approach to bringing the best of haute horlogerie to a wider audience is nonetheless important.
The new 40mm Classic Perpetual Calendar Manufacture perfects the recipe of its predecessor, launched in 2016 with the FC-775 calibre, which here evolves into the new FC-776 to fit into a smaller diameter than the original 42mm.
From a mechanical standpoint, this means a great deal of work for the brand’s watchmakers – who are already on manufacture movement no. 34, an impressive figure for such a young brand!
The salmon-hued dial adds a distinguished elegance to the polished engineering and the silver Dauphiné finish on the main hands tops off an ensemble that is as classic as it is modern.
The perpetual calendar is displayed with the days of the week at 9 o’clock, the month and leap years at 12 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock. The phases of the moon appear at 6 o’clock.
The crocodile leather strap is the finishing touch to a piece that that proves, without a shadow of doubt, that Frederique Constant has what it takes to be considered one of the greats in Swiss watchmaking.
