The region earns a place among Europe’s top beach destinations at the 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, as voted for by UK readers
The Algarve has received international recognition by Condé Nast Traveller’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, with two distinctions in the Best Beaches in Europe category going to Praia da Falésia in Albufeira with a score of 94.70 (4th place) and Praia de Benagil in Lagoa with a score of 81.67 (16th place).

One of the travel industry’s longest-running honours, the Readers’ Choice Awards celebrates destinations and travel experiences based on feedback from the magazine’s readers.
This year, Condé Nast Traveller received more than 296,356 survey responses from readers across the UK, who rated their travel experiences around the world and identified the places they would most like to revisit. The recognition reflects the Algarve’s appeal, with around 300 days of sunshine a year, a diverse gastronomic offering and a wide range of outdoor activities.

André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Association, welcomed the accolade, describing it as a “fantastic achievement for the Algarve” and a “reflection of the extraordinary diversity and natural beauty of our coastline”.

“From the sweeping sands and dramatic cliffs of Falésia to the unique landscape and iconic setting of Benagil, these beaches showcase just what makes the Algarve such a special destination. We are incredibly proud of this international recognition and of everyone across the region who works to ensure that visitors can enjoy our coastline while we continue to protect and preserve it for future generations,” he added.
The 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards are available on the Condé Nast Traveller website and are featured in the magazine’s November issue.
