New state-of-the-art sports centre in Vilamoura set to open in 2026

The new Vilamoura Sports Centre will elevate Vilamoura as an elite international sports and leisure destination

A new state-of-the-art sports centre in Vilamoura is currently under development and promises to become the “latest jewel added to the crown of leisure facilities” enjoyed by visitors to Vilamoura, according to DETAILS, the management company overseeing all of Arrow Global’s hospitality and sporting assets in the area.

The new sports centre will offer a range of facilities that “few luxury resorts across Europe can compete with”, according to Nuno Sepulveda, Co-CEO of DETAILS. The goal is to transform Vilamoura into “an elite sports and leisure destination” that will attract visitors from around the world, making it “an international demand driver and a game changer for the area”.

The ambitious project is being undertaken by DETAILS in partnership with renowned US-based agency Next Practice Partners (NPP), which will lead the concept, strategic, and business plan development for “one of the largest sports centre footprints in Europe”. The 25-hectare site is set to open in 2026.

NPP has experience in developing strategic plans for large-scale projects, having worked on other endeavours such as the Disney/ESPN Wide World of Sports, which spans 220 acres and hosts over 70 sports. The agency has also collaborated with various high-profile clients, including the City of Las Vegas, Los Angeles County (set to host the 2028 Summer Olympics), and the Indiana Sports Corp, a leading sports commission in the US.

The new Vilamoura Sports Centre will be a “cutting-edge, international facility” focused on current and future trends, with an emphasis on sustainability. The centre will also support the local community and ensure inclusivity and social responsibility.

According to Nuno Sepulveda, the project represents not just “a new era of sports for Vilamoura, but also for Portugal”.

Next Practice Partners founder & CEO Neelay Bhatt added that the Vilamoura Sports Centre will be “a place where the spirit of sport and the passion for excellence” come together, set to become “more than just a facility”.
