Four days of music and culture set to take over the historic town centre this June

This year’s edition of the Loulé MED Festival is set to be its most international yet.

Taking place in the town’s historic centre between June 25-28, the 22nd edition will bring together artists from 30 countries, positioning itself as a global hub for World Music, blending sounds from Africa, Latin America, Europe and Asia in what organisers describe as a return to its original DNA of the festival.

Across four days, Loulé will once again transform into a World Music capital, hosting more than 50 concerts across five main stages.

The line-up features internationally recognised names including Goran Bregović, Salif Keita, Sean Kuti & The Egypt 80, Tiken Jah Fakoly and Portugal’s Sérgio Godinho, alongside artists from countries such as Cuba, Chile, Pakistan, Hungary, Angola and Cape Verde.

Festival director Paulo Silva said the aim this year is to reposition MED as a pure World Music festival, with an “eclectic and heterogeneous line-up” reflecting a wide range of cultures and musical traditions.

Several updates are planned for this edition, with the festival area to be expanded, a new MED Lounge space, and with the municipal market to be fully integrated into the programme with ongoing activities.

There will also be a new ticketing system, a larger street food area, more performance spaces for street artists, and adjusted opening hours.

Access to the venue will be improved with a new entrance near Largo de São Francisco, complementing existing entry points by the Municipal Market and the Castle.

Organisers are also launching the Cidade MED concept, extending decorations and initiatives throughout the town in the lead-up to the festival.

Alongside the music programme, a new MED Conference Cycle will bring together recognised names from the arts and other sectors, adding a broader cultural dimension to the event.

Tickets are available at www.bol.pt and on the festival’s official website. As usual, one day will offer free entry on June 28.
