Featuring contributions by renowned chefs, the book highlights the local culinary experiences, regional products, its chefs, and itineraries that connect culture, landscape, and cuisine
“Algarve – A Culinary Journey” features contributions from several of the region’s leading chefs, including local star Noélia Jerónimo. The book combines over 25 life stories, recipes, and landscapes to paint a rich picture of the Algarve beyond its beaches.
Already a success in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, where it sold out in under eight months, the book is now being published in both Portuguese and English.
The book has earned seven international awards so far and brings together writing by Rita Henss, photography by Markus Bassler and Anja Jahn, and art direction by Oliver Hick-Schulz.
Standing out from your typical cookbook, it blends food writing with cultural storytelling and features over 300 photographs across 456 pages.
Chef Noélia Jerónimo, one of Portugal’s beloved and respected culinary voices, is one of the book’s key contributors, sharing 30 recipes including her signature Sardine Rice.
“This book is much more than a recipe collection,” she says. “It is a living expression of our roots, the flavours of childhood, and the respect for origins. I poured my soul into it, as if each dish told a story worth sharing and savouring.”
Structured around five chapters – Water, Earth, Soul, Knowledge, and Taste – the book travels across the Algarve from Aljezur to Vila Real de Santo António. It stops in towns such as Monchique, Tavira, Olhão, Loulé, Lagos, Lagoa, Silves, and Portimão, offering glimpses into the lives of shellfish gatherers, fishermen, farmers, winemakers, street artists, and more.
Editor Marianne Salentin-Träger shared: “Each story, each face, each recipe is a celebration of this land’s authenticity. This is not just a book about food; it is a tribute to the soul of a region and its people.”
The book also includes contributions from other well-known local names such as João Marreiros, Hans Neuner, José Pinheiro, Nélia Nunes, Vasco Prudêncio, Ana Fonseca, and Isabel Ramos. Together, they help showcase the Algarve’s culinary variety, from everyday meals to refined dishes.
The culinary section brings together over 70 recipes, creating a mix of flavours that reflects the Algarve’s identity and diversity.
“Algarve – A Culinary Journey” will be available from September 29 in selected outlets, with Portuguese and English editions released as limited prints. During the pre-order period, it can be purchased in either language at a special price of €45 via www.cc-pr.com.
