An art exhibition inspired by the Roman architecture will be featured at the Samora Barros Gallery in Albufeira this month, from February 4 to 26
Ben Helmink will present a collection of oil and acrylic paintings with a sand structure, inspired by Grecian and Roman architecture.
The static ruins of Pompei, Cuzco and Stonehenge appear in a dynamic setting of living nature. Splitting some of the paintings in three parts – triptychs – brings the extra tension the artist pursues, and each painting tells its own story, expressing the artist’s connection and fascination with the ancient world.
Ben Helmink was born in the Netherlands, and was always fascinated by painting and drawing, having later studied Art History and Artistic Studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He now lives in Alentejo since 2006, with an atelier of its own called “Monte das Moradias”, where he expresses various pieces of the Alentejo’s landscape.
