The Algarve marina has been earning several distinctions, establishing itself on the international stage
Portimão Marina was recently awarded Best Marina in Southern Europe at the World Luxury Travel Awards 2025, held in Barcelona in late October. The award is based on a public vote and the judgement of an international panel, recognising excellence in service, attention to detail, infrastructure quality, style and design, efficiency, customer feedback, marketing, diversity, location and reputation.
For João Machado da Silva, CEO of Portimão Marina, the award reflects the dedication of the entire team and the potential of the Algarve as a top nautical destination. “Being considered the Best Marina in Southern Europe is a testament to the dedication of everyone who contributes to this project”, he says, adding that the Marina will continue to invest in quality, innovation and sustainability, strengthening Portimão’s position as a leading destination for luxury boating.

Located next to the scenic Arade estuary, the marina can accommodate 620 boats, including superyachts up to 50 metres. It is open 365 days a year and welcomes vessels from more than 20 countries. Beyond its boating facilities, Portimão Marina offers a full range of technical support, including a boat maintenance yard, a 50-tonne travel lift and a 300-tonne travel lift, the largest gantry crane in Portugal.
For visitors, the marina also features a commercial area, a concessioned beach and an ocean pool, as well as the four-star NH Hotel Marina Portimão. And with sustainability being central to its operations, the marina has selective waste collection, wastewater treatment, solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations and environmental education programmes.
The marina has also earned the SuperYacht Ready Marina distinction from The Yacht Harbour Association and the Marina Industries Association, becoming the first in Portugal to receive the certification. This recognises marinas that offer exceptional facilities and services for large vessels, along with integration into the Global Gold Anchor programme.
Other recent accolades include the Jack Nichol Award, 5 Gold Anchors status from the Yacht Harbour Association, the Blue Flag and the International Clean Marina award.
All of these achievements reinforce Portimão Marina’s commitment to quality, sustainability and protecting the marine environment, further establishing the Algarve region as a leading destination for luxury boating.
