The 26th edition invites artists and photographers to capture the municipality

The Portimão Photo Race (Corrida Fotográfica de Portimão) returns on May 16 for its 26th edition, introducing a drawing category for the first time.

Held as part of the 18th anniversary of the Portimão Museum, the event challenges participants to capture original views of the municipality.

Alongside the established photography format, this year also launches “Desenhar Portimão”, expanding the initiative to include drawing and painting. Entries in both categories will be assessed separately by a jury.

The competition has built a strong reputation over the years and has been closely linked to the museum since before its opening in 2008.

On May 16, photographers will have between 8.30am and 8.30pm to produce a set of 12 images based on themes revealed by organisers. All photographs must be taken within the municipality, including Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande.

The drawing event will take place on the same day, from 9am to 6pm. Participants will meet at the museum before heading to two selected locations for sketching or painting.

Prizes will be awarded to the top four entries in each category, ranging from €750 to €1,000. There will also be a Youth Prize for participants aged 12 to 17, as well as a Special Jury Prize. Winning works will be displayed at the museum throughout December.

Registration is open until May 13 and can be completed online or in person at the museum. Further details are available via telephone or email (+351 282 405 230/269 | [email protected])
