Maibaumfest brings a Bavarian village to the Algarve, with live music, traditional food and family-friendly entertainment

Vila Vita Biergarten, in Porches, will mark the arrival of Bavarian Spring on May 1, with its Maibaumfest celebration – one of the most popular traditions in Bavaria and other regions of Germany and Austria.

For the occasion, the venue will be transformed into a Bavarian-style village, with a market and a decorated Maibaum – or Maypole – alongside huts, food stalls and live entertainment.

This ritual marks the beginning of the new season and celebrates renewal, identity, heritage, and the return to life outdoors. In a festive and communal setting, families and friends gather around a tall wooden pole decorated with colourful ribbons and traditional symbols.

Visitors can expect a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, with a mix of experiences including Bavarian and Austrian snacks, traditional sweets, artisanal ice cream from Gelato Mio, and a selection of products from V-Life shops. Guests can also take part in decorating the Maibaum, choosing ribbons and flowers and leaving their wishes for the new season.

Live music starts at 3pm, with performances inspired by traditional folk sounds. At the bar, German beer will be served alongside Maibowle, a seasonal cocktail made with white wine and fresh herbs.

The event is designed for all ages, with a dedicated children’s area featuring inflatables, games and activities.

Tickets cost €10 for adults and €5 for children up to 12, including entry and one drink. Free parking is available on-site.
