Portugal will be looking to be chosen as the World’s Leading Destination for the fourth consecutive year at the 2020 World Travel Awards (WTA), often referred to as the “Oscars” of the global tourism sector. In total, the country has fielded 62 nominations.

Last year Portugal brought home 12 ‘tourism Oscars’ and the plan will certainly be to match or exceed the number this year.

Portugal has even received some new nominations and could be named the World’s Leading Nature Destination or the World’s Leading Family Destination.

Meanwhile, the Algarve is once again in the running to be hailed the World’s Best Beach Destination.

Portugal’s list of nominees goes on and on with several entities, companies and hotels looking to bring home an award.

Voting is taking place online at www.worldtravelawards.com until October 25. The award ceremony is scheduled for November 27 in Moscow, Russia – although whether it will go ahead is unclear.
