Portugal wins the Best Golf Destination award for the third consecutive year at the prestigious World Golf Awards
Portugal has once again proven its golfing excellence, receiving the coveted titles of World’s Best Golf Destination and Europe’s Best Golf Destination. The prestigious accolades were awarded at the 11th edition of the World Golf Awards, held this year in Funchal, Madeira.
According to Turismo de Portugal, the country’s success is attributed “to the integrated tourist experience, good air and land accessibility, exceptional hospitality, high-quality sports and hotel infrastructures that cater for different profiles of players (whether professionals or amateurs), and excellent value for money”.
Golf helps boost tourist revenue and extend tourist activity throughout the year and throughout the territory through its link to tourism, according to the organisation.
The 11th edition of the World Golf Awards was held in Madeira, which won several accolades this year, including Best Emerging Golf Destination in the World.
The World Golf Awards are voted on by golf industry professionals from over 100 countries and are part of the World Travel Awards, considered the Oscars of tourism.
Currently, Portugal has 92 golf courses spread across various regions, with particular emphasis on the Algarve, Lisbon, Porto, and the north.
