Algarve restaurants lead the way
The Algarve is once again in the spotlight, with two of its restaurants reaching the highest distinction in the Guia Repsol 2026, edition which recognised 120 restaurants across Portugal for their overall dining experience.
For the second consecutive year following a nine-year break, the guide awarded its coveted Suns to 41 establishments.
At the top level, two Algarve restaurants have reached the guide’s highest distinction. Vila Joya in Albufeira and Vista in Portimão were each awarded 3 Suns. Portugal now has six restaurants holding this top accolade.
Beyond the top tier, the guide also revealed nine new restaurants awarded 2 Suns, 30 receiving 1 Sun, and 79 listed as Repsol Guide Restaurants – a category replacing the former Recommended distinction. The updated category now extends to new destinations as well, including the islands of Pico and Terceira.
Sustainability remains a key focus, with four Sustainable Suns awarded this year, one for each category. These went to Vista (3 Suns), Mesa de Lemos (2 Suns), Ciclo (1 Sun) and Pão & Pizza (Repsol Guide Restaurant).

The awards ceremony took place in Évora, at the Garcia de Resende Theatre, bringing together leading figures from Portugal’s tourism and hospitality industries. Among those in attendance were Turismo de Portugal president Carlos Abade, Évora mayor Carlos Zorrinho, president of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Board, José Manuel Santos, managing director of Repsol Portugal, Vera Vicente, and the Repsol Guide director, María Ritter.
With each edition, the Repsol Guide continues to strengthen connections across the Iberian gastronomic community whilst spotlighting the talent driving Portugal’s restaurant scene forward.
