In a sold-out concert at the Albufeira Pine Cliffs Resort, the legendary singer captivated the audience with his humbleness and sense of humour
Legendary Welsh singer Sir Tom Jones delighted thousands of eager fans with his charismatic personality and powerful vocals at the 21st Summer Gala of the Pine Cliffs Resort in Albufeira, held on Friday, August 2.
The much-anticipated concert saw the beloved artist perform all his biggest hits from a career spanning over six decades.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest artists of all times and indeed a living legend, Sir Tom not only sang but also spoke on stage, in-between songs, sharing with the attentive audience some fascinating episodes of his long, remarkable career (like the time Elvis Presley introduced him to Chuck Berry in Las Vegas!), which made the concert feel truly intimate – just like being with an old friend!
Surprisingly, he even announced that his friend Sir Cliff Richard was in the audience, and whilst many were hoping for an impromptu duet, this did not happen, but they made sure to pose for a photo backstage which was later shared on social media (see below). According to the Daily Express, Sir Cliff jetted to the Algarve to support his friend and had a “fun night out” catching up with “The Voice mentor before the sold-out gig”.
At 84, the singer certainly has enough stage experience, and this was easy to see when he captivated the audience with his humbleness and sense of humour, including cheeky jokes about his “old age”.

Uncoincidentally, “I’m Growing Old”, from his latest album Surrounded by Time (2021), was the first song of the night, which he sang proudly, but his energy on stage certainly did not reflect an ageing figure, and it was clear when he performed everyone’s favourites such as “It’s Not Unusual”, “Delilah”, “What’s New Pussycat?” or “Sex Bomb”, iconic songs which, despite a slight revamp and some refreshing spins, had fans roaring with applause.
The charming singer showed his skill and musical prowess, encouraging the devoted crowd to sing along, dance and clap. Promising an “electrifying atmosphere and memories to cherish for a lifetime”, Sir Tom Jones’ performance certainly made sure of this.

The lighting and visual effects on stage were incredible and a large screen gave fans who were further away from the stage the chance to “feel closer” to the artist, who always made sure they were part of the show.
Feedback from fans on social media ranged from “fantastic evening rocking with Sir Tom Jones in the Algarve”, “Wow can he sing!” to “Tom was amazing! Was never a big fan; after that performance, I am converted, what an entertainer, he was awesome”.
Accompanied by his band, Tom Jones provided an unforgettable evening of music and entertainment in a stunning setting. Fireworks lit up the sky to conclude a memorable Algarve summer night.

As fans started to disperse, clearly in awe of the superstar’s amazing performance, the general feeling was one of honour to be part of this experience.
Sir Tom Jones is just the latest artist to add his name to the long list of artists who have performed at the Summer Gala, an annual summer event hosted by Pine Cliffs for over 20 years. Throughout the years, the resort’s gardens have welcomed big names from the music industry such as Gloria Gaynor, Lionel Richie, Michael Bolton, Joe Cocker, and UB40, among many others.
