International tennis returns to the region with a week-long UTR Pro Tennis Tour, starting in Carvoeiro

The UTR Pro Tennis Tour returns to Portugal this week for its second edition, starting the first competition in Carvoeiro, and bringing together 40 professional tennis players to compete for a total prize fund of $40,000.

Last year’s UTR Pro Tennis Tour in Portugal proved to be a success, and the event is once again being held in Portugal, at the Carvoeiro Tennis and Padel Club, running from January 12 (Monday) to January 19 (Sunday).

The tournament is played on outdoor hard courts and features 40 professional players, divided equally between 20 women and 20 men.

From Monday to Friday, the competition follows a group-stage format, organised into four groups of five players. The weekend is reserved for the knockout matches, which determine the final standings, with both the men’s and women’s titles decided on Sunday.

Each champion will receive $3,600 in prize money (around €3,100), whilst the finalists will earn $2,075 (approximately $1,800), with the organisers providing accommodation for all athletes and the officiating team at the Vale da Lapa Luxury Village Resort, ensuring high-level conditions for the tournament.

This competition is the first of five combined tournaments scheduled for the first quarter of the season. The remaining events will take place during the weeks of January 19, February 2, February 23 and March 30, all in the Algarve.

The Carvoeiro Tennis and Padel Club also serves as the operational centre of the FREDGIL Academy, founded by former professional tennis player Fred Gil.

The establishment of the international UTR Pro Tennis Tour over several weeks also strengthens the presence of athletes, coaching teams and officials in the region, creating a direct impact on local sporting activity and tourism, and further positioning the Algarve as a destination for sports events.

The UTR Pro Tennis Tour in Portugal results from a partnership involving the Carvoeiro Tennis and Padel Club, the Lagoa Municipal Council, Turismo do Algarve, Details, Web Summit and World Talents.
