The exhibition “Storytelling” welcomes visitors to take a journey through Yarrow’s illustrious career
Photography gallery In The Pink, located in Loulé and Quinta do Lago, is hosting “Storytelling”, a solo exhibition by David Yarrow starting on July 19, Friday.
Recognised as one of the world’s best-selling photographers, David Yarrow is now being represented by In The Pink in Portugal. The show will span over three floors of the Loulé gallery and the exhibition will take visitors on a journey through Yarrow’s illustrious career. There will also be artworks by David Yarrow shown at In The Pink’s new space in Quinta Shopping.
In an assemblage of David Yarrow’s adventures and misadventures over the last 10 years, In the Pink Gallery brings “Storytelling”, a selection of works by the photographer, wherein he has crafted stories as an art form from a mix of the natural world, people, places and events, creating wonderment and surprise to the viewer.
He is a maker rather than a taker of photographs, more akin to a film director who transports you to a cinematic world of fantasy and the unusual.
As a result of meticulous planning and a large support cast, he often introduces well-known celebrities in ways we have not seen before, from supermodels such as Cindy Crawford and Cara Delevingne oractors like Bill Nighy and Russell Wilson to sporting icons like Gary Player, John McEnroe, and Erling Haaland.
David was born in Glasgow, and his idols include Scottish photographers Albert Watson and Harry Benson. He is also a devout football fan of his beloved Scotland. Taking up photography at a young age, at just 20 years old he found himself working for the Times of London during the 1986 World Cup Final in Mexico City. The photograph of Diego Maradona holding the Jules Rimet trophy aloft in the crowd told a victorious story in its entirety and was widely published around the world.
At the time, Yarrow chose banking as a career and later set up his own Hedge Fund in the City of London. But his heart was always elsewhere and, in 2014, he sold the Fund and returned to his passion, with a very clear plan on how to execute it.
His breakthrough came after many weeks of travelling between London and Cape Town and eventually getting the shot he longed for in False Bay – the Great White Shark and his Sea Lion prey. It was his breakthrough moment and his first commercial sale – he has never looked back.
Yarrow’s photography is sold all around the world and his editions sell out regularly. Over the last few years, David has sold over $120 million of works, having raised $15 million for charitable causes, including his own David Yarrow Family Foundation.
The exhibition at the In The Pink gallery in Loulé will take place between July 19 and September 29, and in Quinta Shopping between July 19 and August 15.
