From new premium resorts, hotels, and designer villas to sustainable tourism milestones and expanded air routes – there’s plenty to explore

A new five-star hotel has recently opened its doors in Lagos, combining modern architecture, sea views, and first-class service, just a few metres from both Camilo and Dona Ana beaches.

Beyond its excellent location, it also stands out for its gastronomy, which focuses on national flavours and seasonal products from local producers.

It’s ideal for family holidays and weekends, with a Kids Club for the little ones and a wellness area where you can exercise or enjoy the spa and a massage. It’s also close to cultural routes and numerous activities.

New addition to Vila Vita Collection

Vila Vita Collection has unveiled Casa Rosa dos Ventos, a stunningly restored windmill near Guia, joining their portfolio of luxury Algarve properties.

This two-bedroom villa, ideal for slowing down, boasts a rooftop terrace with ocean and vineyard views, lush gardens, and a heated pool.

Guests enjoy five-star hotel service from Vila Vita Parc, including concierge and daily housekeeping.

Rates start from €440 per night, offering a tranquil escape just minutes from the coast.

Algarve reaches record number of Green Keys

The Algarve has won a record-breaking 65 Green Keys this year. “This achievement reinforces the region’s commitment to sustainability and environmental excellence in the tourism sector,” said Turismo do Algarve.

This number is a significant increase on the 20 certificates received in 2019, in the pre-pandemic period.

In 2025, the Algarve’s winning establishments spanned a wide range of services, including hotels and holiday apartments, pousadas, campsites, local accommodation units and a conference centre, reflecting the region’s collective and transversal effort to integrate sustainable practices.

Ombria Algarve celebrates official opening

The official opening of Ombria Algarve and Viceroy at Ombria Algarve hotel was celebrated in Tôr (Loulé) this summer, marking the end of a 20-year journey to see the resort finally open its doors.

“What an adventure we’ve had over the last two decades. It was a long journey, and it took two generations to get here,” said Ilpo Kokkila, Chairman of the Pontos Group and the project’s mentor at the opening event.

Patrick Freeman, CEO of Ombria, thanked the previous and current Ombria teams for their dedication to the project and praised Portugal as the ideal home for Ombria.

Highgate, the owner of the Viceroy hotel chain, was also in attendance, represented by its CEO Arash Azarbarzin. “Highgate believes deeply in Portugal,” he said.

Missoni and Norfin partner to launch Aroeira Collections by Missoni

World-renowned Italian fashion house Missoni makes its debut in Portugal with Aroeira Collections by Missoni, an exclusive residential and touristic project located in Aroeira, Costa da Caparica.

The €200 million development includes 138 hotel apartments, and 40 additional apartments with two- and three-bedroom configurations, 24 houses, and 28 villas.

At the heart of the development lies the Aroeira Collections Hotel, poised to welcome both residents and visitors.

The project also features two 18-hole PGA championship golf courses, a health centre, two pools, tennis and padel courts, a restaurant, children’s play areas, and 24-hour reception.

Faro connects to 22 international markets

This summer, Faro Airport boasts 86 routes to 75 destinations, including direct links to three new markets: New York, Helsinki, and Reykjavik.

The strengthened air connections to the USA with United Airlines, Finland with Finnair, and Iceland with Play, mean the Algarve is now connected to 22 international markets.

According to ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, the Gago Coutinho Airport averages 821 weekly flights, an average increase of 8% compared to the same summer period last year.

Algarve to take centre stage at the 2026 BTL fair

The Algarve will be the National Guest Destination at BTL – Better Tourism Lisbon Travel Market, the biggest tourism fair held in Portugal.

The region had previously held the title in 2016. The Algarve’s showcase at BTL 2026 will include a brand-new promotional stand in the main pavilion.

The space will bring together municipalities, companies and tour operators, offering visitors a full taste of the Algarve, from sun and sea to nature tourism, culture, gastronomy, and wine.
