From local art exhibitions and the first international animation event to folk traditions

Loulé to host animation festival

Loulé is set to host the first-ever Ibero-American animation co-production and audiovisual meeting in 2026.

“It will be two intensive days that will bring together producers from various Ibero-American countries, with a particular focus on Brazil. There will be project pitches, workshops, masterclasses, very much focused on the industry and also aimed at new authors,” explained Nuno Beato, producer and member of the Portuguese Animation Producers Association.

Although an official date for early 2026 is yet to be announced, this Ibero-American gathering for professionals will also stem from a protocol to be formalised with the Loulé Municipality and is expected to collaborate with Casa da Animação.

Head in the Clouds

From August 11 to September 9, the João Bailote Gallery in Albufeira hosts Cabeça nas Nuvens (Head in the Clouds), an exhibition by Portuguese artist Guilherme Limão.

Renowned both nationally and internationally, his works can be viewed between 9.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Guilherme Limão, who lives and works in the Algarve, creates compositions, both figurative and abstract, using materials such as fabric, paper, or wood, combined with acrylic paints.

In 2018, he participated in Albufeira’s “Cores e Formas dos Nossos Artistas” art competition. His work is held in private collections in the Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

FETAAL

Bensafrim’s Urban Park is set to host the annual FETAAL event (Fair of Traditions and Arts of the Algarve).

This popular fair, running from August 8-10, offers a vibrant showcase of the region’s heritage.

Visitors can immerse themselves in Algarvian gastronomy and artisan crafts, enjoy live music from Portuguese artists, and watch or participate in equestrian activities, traditional games, and pétanque tournaments.

The fair truly captures local life, with community associations like Estrela Desportiva de Bensafrim and the Bensafrim Hunters’ Association represented.

The Bensafrim Equestrian Association will oversee the equestrian zone and competitions throughout the event. Entry is free.
