From new hospitality projects and boutique hotel growth to Investor Talks and rising foreign investment

Martinhal brings hybrid hospitality to East Lisbon

Martinhal, the luxury hospitality brand founded with its award-winning family resort in Sagres, is expanding its portfolio with Marvila Studios, a hybrid hospitality concept in Lisbon’s fast-growing Marvila district.

Forming part of the Edu Hub Lisbon campus, the development will feature 374 serviced studios designed for university students, young professionals, digital nomads, corporate guests, and leisure travellers.

Designed by award-winning architect Eduardo Capinha Lopes, the project also offers buy-to-let investment opportunities, reflecting the growing demand for flexible accommodation combining hospitality, education, and professional mobility.

Small Portuguese Hotels expands portfolio

Small Portuguese Hotels has expanded its collection of independently owned boutique properties with the addition of five new hotels across Portugal, including Vila Valverde Design & Country Hotel, near Lagos.

The Algarve property joins Artsy Cascais and Estoril Boutique Hotel on the Lisbon coast, Gran Cruz Apartments in Vila Nova de Gaia, and Quinta da Asneira in the Alentejo. Set within five hectares overlooking Praia da Luz bay, Vila Valverde becomes the collection’s latest Algarve representative.

The expansion reflects the group’s strategy of strengthening its network of characterful independent hotels whilst promoting regional diversity and sustainable tourism experiences across the country.

Portimão Arena will host the 5th edition of Portugal’s largest investment and financial literacy event.

Taking place on September 12 and 13, Investor Talks focuses on personal finance, investment strategies and entrepreneurship, bringing together financial experts, influencers and business leaders to share their knowledge and experience.

Portugal attracts record investor interest

Portugal is strengthening its position as one of Europe’s leading destinations for foreign investment, with the Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency (AICEP) currently analysing 85 foreign direct investment projects worth more than €22 billion.

According to the latest EY European Attractiveness Survey, the country ranked 9th in Europe for foreign investment projects in 2025 and 8th for jobs created, with 11,591 new positions. Portugal also placed among Europe’s top five destinations for artificial intelligence and data centre investments.

The government has pledged to simplify licensing procedures through a new digital platform, aiming to reduce bureaucracy and encourage further investment across sectors including tourism, industry, commerce, and services.
