Described by travel writer Mary Lussiana as “a game-changer for the region”, the boutique property is the latest Portuguese project from Spanish group Marugal Distinctive Hotel Management.

Set in the heart of Tavira, the hotel combines rooms housed within a restored palace with a newly built Moorish-inspired extension, offering what the publication describes as a quieter and more refined addition to the Algarve’s hospitality landscape.

Algarve among Europe’s top hiking destinations

The Algarve has been named one of Europe’s most popular hiking destinations for 2026, ranking third in a reader poll by Germany’s Trekking Magazine.

Based on votes from around 35,000 readers, the region placed behind Italy’s Dolomites/South Tyrol and France’s Brittany.

According to Turismo do Algarve, the distinction reflects continued efforts to position the region as a year-round nature tourism destination, supported by its varied landscapes, mild climate, and trail network, including routes such as the Via Algarviana and the Rota Vicentina.

The recognition comes ahead of the Algarve Walking Season programme, which kicks off in November.
