Following renovations, the resort introduces a more intimate approach, deeply rooted in the region and focusing on comfort and authenticity
Conrad Algarve has entered a new chapter in its history. The resort in Quinta do Lago reopened on March 2, following a five-week refurbishment, unveiling a number of new facilities, including innovative spaces and concepts designed to enhance the guest experience.

The result is a natural evolution of the original design, preserving the 18th-century-inspired architecture whilst introducing a more contemporary and welcoming feel.
Opened in 2012 under the Hilton brand, the hotel was designed as a reinterpretation of a neoclassical Portuguese palace, where the majestic metal gate opens onto a long pathway leading to the main building.

This arrival experience has now been subtly redesigned. The old Portuguese cobblestones have given way to new paving, and the cypress and palm trees have been replaced by olive trees, whilst water features now take centre stage, lending it a greater sense of openness.
The aim is to create a smooth transition between the outside world and the resort’s atmosphere, allowing guests to gradually leave the hustle and bustle of travel behind.
The lobby has also undergone a significant transformation. Previously dominated by white tones, the space now features a palette of warm colours and carved wood panelling on the pillars, inspired by the Algarve’s oaks and cork.

Works of art and tapestries in light shades of orange, green and blue evoke the landscapes of the Algarve coast, introducing texture and depth, for a more serene settling-in experience without compromising the natural light and architectural spaciousness.
The interior design was entrusted to the Irish studio O’Donnell O’Neill, which sought to preserve the original elegance whilst enhancing overall comfort.
To the right of the lobby, you will find another new addition: The Nest Cocktails and Bar. Decorated by the Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, the space was designed to become the new meeting spot in Quinta do Lago.

The idea is to create a place where guests and the local community can gather throughout the day, whether for coffee, tea, cocktails, or to enjoy the Signature Bar Menu, created by executive chef Benjamin Painset. The décor features wood, marble and warm tones, creating an intimate and relaxed atmosphere.

Outside, a new pergola extends the experience onto a terrace that is perfect even on cooler days. The concept also reflects the intention to create distinct destinations within the hotel, each with its own identity that extends beyond the Conrad brand.

The outdoor leisure areas are also being redesigned. Leading to the Sereno pool, a new octagonal-shaped bar is underway. Blending marble details inspired by palatial elegance with a lighter, more relaxed feel, it is designed to foster social interaction. Meanwhile, the areas surrounding the pools are being expanded, with new pergolas, daybeds and additional space for sun loungers.

Another highlight is the new Oliveira Brasserie restaurant, which takes over from Louro as the all-day dining venue. Also designed by the O’Donnell O’Neill studio, the restaurant seeks to establish a clearer connection to the Algarve through materials, textures and visual references. According to interior architect Marcello Palla, the concept reinterprets regional elements through a contemporary lens. Natural textures, clay-plastered walls and woodwork by local craftsmen contribute to a “subtle elegance”, where material quality and attention to detail take centre stage.

The layout has also been reorganised, replacing enclosed rooms with a more open configuration that allows for different atmospheres. An olive tree greets visitors at the entrance, whilst an elegant sculptural lamp inspired by that same tree further echoes the project’s theme.

These improvements mark a new chapter for Conrad Algarve. Whilst retaining the architectural grandeur that has always set the hotel apart, the overhaul introduces a more intimate approach that is deeply rooted in the region, reflecting a hospitality philosophy increasingly focused on experience, comfort and authenticity.
