Algarve-based artist explores the beauty of imperfection in a new solo exhibition at Palácio Gama Lobo Gallery
Algarve-based ceramic artist Catarina Gonçalves is presenting her latest exhibition, ‘Traces of Memory’, at the Palácio Gama Lobo Gallery in Loulé.
The exhibition showcases the artist’s new ‘Erosion’ series, a body of work inspired by the slow and transformative power of time. Rejecting industrial repetition, Gonçalves’ practice embraces the “unrepeatable detail”, resulting in sculptural and functional pieces that each carry their own character and story.
“My practice is grounded in the slow, quiet rituals of making,” says Gonçalves. “Each piece carries the mark of its own moment, shaped by curiosity rather than repetition.”
In ‘Traces of Memory’, the artist presents works created through an intuitive and fluid process. Celebrating imperfection and subtle variation, her pieces merge sculptural forms with decorative objects, exploring the relationship between structure, erosion, and memory.
The exhibition reflects on what remains over time, using clay as both material and metaphor. Through earthy tones and organic textures, Gonçalves explores how life shapes, transforms, and leaves its mark on us.
Working from a shared studio in Loulé, the artist is known for her handcrafted approach and commitment to one-of-a-kind pieces. Her work invites touch and contemplation, exploring earthy tones and soft textures that evoke a sense of serenity.
‘Traces of Memory’ will be on display until July 4, from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 6pm.
