Conrad Algarve celebrates 10th anniversary with host of events

The hotel in Quinta do Lago kicked off the celebrations of its 10th anniversary with an art exhibition by Portuguese artist Pedro Guimarães

Conrad Algarve is celebrating its 10^th anniversary this year with a series of events, the first of which was the inauguration of an art exhibition titled ‘Colourful Dreams’ by Portuguese artist Pedro Guimarães with ArtCatto Gallery on April 21.

The event attracted “great interest” from art lovers and the local community who were excited to see the work of the artist, described by the resort as “one of the distinguished, emerging creators”.

According to the resort, other events are in the pipeline and will be geared towards “specific audiences” and “integrated in segments that are at the core of Conrad Algarve: Art, Corporative Responsibility and Community, Employees, Cuisine and Golf”.

Looking back on 10 years of success

Conrad Algarve opened on September 26, 2012, becoming the first Conrad Hotels & Resorts unit to open in Europe.

Conrad Algarve general manager, Marco Cogollos, said the resort is an “iconic and unmissable property within Hilton, amongst the local community and guests who visit us year after year.

“These have been 10 intense years of magical and unforgettable moments which endure in our memory. It is an honour for me to be able to celebrate such a special date with a fantastic team which works in an unsurpassed way every day, making each stay unique,” he added.

Cogollos also thanked ArtCatto for its 10-year partnership which has helped bring “world-renowned artists to the hotel”.

The feeling of gratitude was shared by ArtCatto director, Gillian Catto.

“I remember the first time I visited Conrad Algarve in 2012 with Joachim Hartl, the first general manager. Although it was still at a very initial phase, when there was little more than a concrete structure, I felt the hotel had the magnitude and potential to become what it is today: a centre for art and culture in our community,” Catto said.

“Over 25 exhibitions were held over the last 10 years with unforgettable moments, from the first exhibition in 2013 with Cristina Bergoglio’s ‘City Escapes’, to the Cultural Festivals of China and India as well as ‘Off the Wall’, which had Portuguese artists and students from the Fine Arts schools of Lisboa and Faro graffiti the resort’s underground parking,” she said.

Gillian Catto added: “It has been an enormous pleasure to work with a hotel which lives art with the same intensity as we do, and we hope to continue collaborating for the next 10 years.”
