The outdoor event spreads over three festival days across the winter months
Festival Sol de Inverno (Winter Sun Festival) is back for its third edition at Tavira’s Jardim do Sapal.
Created to challenge seasonality whilst celebrating the region’s cultural identity, thefestival takes place across three days, spread over January, February and March, reinforcing the message that the Algarve does not slow down when winter arrives. Each month features one full day of programming designed to bring people together in the open air.
Described as the festival that warms up the Algarve, Sol de Inverno brings live music, local creativity and outdoor activities for the colder months.
“Sol de Inverno was created to show that the Algarve has cultural life all year round. We want to value what is ours – culture, local talent and the privilege of this climate,” said organiser Filipa Teixeira.
The festival opens on Saturday, January 17, with a varied line-up that includes electronic music from Rui Travasso and Vasco Ramalho (Museu Zer0), the Clube Tavira Jazz Band, Isabela & Zico and a vinyl set by Gaspar. Music starts around lunchtime and continues until sunset.
The February date, on February 21, features Nameless and the Chicken Nuggets, as well as a live set from Rádio Horizonte with DJ Feders.
The final day of the festival takes place on March 21, with performances by Riki & Izzy, Beira-Mar Band and Banda Atlântica, followed by a sunset party with Marie Mon Amour to close the winter season.
Alongside the music, visitors can explore a market showcasing local artists and creators, enjoy street food, take part in sports activities and workshops, and visit a children’s area with games and sensory experiences. There will also be a space dedicated to animal welfare and adoption.
Organisers invite everyone to come prepared with blankets, friends and family, including four-legged companions, and a good mood. Activities run from 11am until sunset, making the most of Tavira’s winter sunshine.
