Vilamoura Equestrian Centre receives excellence award from Horse Republic

The Vilamoura Equestrian Centre has received an ‘Award Excellence’ from French publication Horse Republic.

The distinction is all the more impressive considering it was only awarded to 10 equestrian centres out of 4,000 that hosted international equestrian events in 2020 across the globe.

“Receiving this award despite the very strong competition from countries with a long tradition of organising international equestrian events is a prize for our equestrian centre but also for Vilamoura and the Algarve due to the logistics involved and the presence of the best riders and horses in the world,” said António Moura, coordinator of the centre.

“Horse Republic took into account the fact that the Vilamoura Equestrian Centre followed the sanitary rules that were demanded by national and international authorities, using the most modern technologies for these kinds of situations.”

In October and November, the Vilamoura Riding Centre hosted a series of qualifying events for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics which featured some of the best riders in the world, including Marta Ortega, Athina Onassis, Cayetano Martinez de Irujo and Jessica Springsteen.

All in all, around 350 riders from 40 countries and more than 1,200 horses took part in the events.
