Vilamoura to welcome new Green Park by the end of the year

Parque Verde Arquitecto Paisagista Fernando Pessoa Vilamoura - Vilamoura Green Park 2

First tree planted in Vilamoura’s central area

The first tree for the upcoming Green Park – Parque Verde Arquitecto Paisagista Fernando Pessoa – was planted this summer, marking a “historic moment” for the Vilamoura community.

The new green space, with approximately 4.2 acres, has been named in honour of the distinguished Portuguese landscape architect Fernando Pessoa.

Designed to protect and enhance Vilamoura’s natural heritage, the project is being hailed as “an example of urban sustainability, combining the preservation of green areas with sustainable mobility infrastructure, thus contributing to the sustainability of the urban centre”.

The public investment, led by Inframoura – Vilamoura’s infrastructure company – exceeds €500,000, and followed an application to the Algarve 2030 programme in the area of “action for the protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure”.

Due to be completed by the end of this year, the Green Park aims to redevelop and enhance public green areas, promote biodiversity, natural capital and the restoration of existing watercourses in line with the Loulé Municipality Climate Action Plan.

The park will be transformed through actions that include the renaturalisation of the watercourse, increased flood control capacity, enhancement of the natural heritage through the planting of new native trees and shrubs, and the creation of accessible footpaths and cycle paths, and leisure areas.
